LOVEGROVE’s Solar-PoWERED ALPINE CAPSULE/.

The Alpine Capsule is an 8-meter wide structure with a double-glass skin that is covered with a special reflective coating. The coating meant to reflect the structure’s surroundings and blend in with the environment. “It’s completely transparent from the inside, and at night you can see the stars. That will be a remarkable experience to be warm and cozy and intimate with this vast universe.”

Designers like Ross Lovegrove, who think of cars on sticks and solar trees, are constantly pushing the envelope. You may think concepts like these are absolutely off the wall and completely impractical, but at the same time, innovation and crazy ideas can inspire brilliant solutions.

(*rAnDO)————— tHe HUPA/4,000-+

Hupa are Native North Americans whose traditional land is Hoopa Valley, California.  Their tradition suggests that they have lived in Hoopa Valley for over 4,000 years, and their language suggests that they moved to the area from what is now western Canada.

Their use of a sweat houses for ceremonies are not characteristic of that culture area.

ARTHUR LEE (LoVE)— +-

Arthur Lee described himself as “the first so-called black hippie”.

He and his group, LOVE, were part of the same 60’s Hollywood scene that produced The Byrds, The Doors, Buffalo Springfield and The Mamas and the Papas.

Lee and his band became the first rock group to sign to The Doors’ Elektra label, releasing a self-titled debut in April 1966. Jim Morrison would later claim that the Doors’ original goal was to be as big as Arthur Lee and Love.

Lee, who established himself as the first black rock star of the post-Beatles era, fronted Love through astonishing musical changes that have continued to resonate for other rockers and a cult of critics and fans. Their first four albums ranged wildly, from prototypical garage-punk and jazzy experimentation to Spanish guitar.

Jimi Hendrix’s first known appearance as a session musician was on an early SURF song written by Lee. They later collaborated on a song entitled “The Everlasting First”. The song bemoaned the losses of Jesus Christ and Martin Luther King. There are some who say that Hendrix “borrowed” his outlandish dress style directly from Lee.

( “My Little Red Book” 1966)

Despite Love’s enduring status as a cult act with little commercial success, the band cast a long shadow. Syd Barrett called Love a defining inspiration for early Pink Floyd. Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant specifically mentioned Lee at the 1995 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

The band’s lone Top 40 single, “7 and 7 Is” – a song that ended with the sound of an atom bomb exploding and foreshadowed late ’70s punk rock by 10 years.

NORTHCOM Assigns TWO MORe (???)— -

(this is unprecendented, mind you) Northcom has announced that two more U.S. military units will be assigned for domestic homeland security missions, bringing the total number of combat ready service members operating inside the U.S. to around 4,700, as fears grow about the increasing militarization of law enforcement.

The announcement follows the controversy surrounding a September 8 Army Times report (revised on September 30), which revealed that the 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team, fresh from combat duties in Iraq, would be operating inside America for tasks including “civil unrest and crowd control,” a detail that was later denied by Northcom.

“In the next three years the military plans to activate and train an estimated 4,700 service members for specialized domestic operations, according to Air Force Gen. Gene Renuart, commander of U.S. Northern Command, which was created in 2002 for homeland defense missions,” reports the Colorado Independent.

“It’s to help us manage the consequences of a large-scale event,” said Renuart. “We have one [unit] now trained and equipped and assigned to the Northern Command. We’ll grow a second one this calendar year of 2009 and a third one in the calendar year 2010 so we can provide the nation three sets of capabilities that could respond to an event of the size of 9/11 or larger.”

this morning, on my way to the chichi grocery store, i crossed paths with a silent-but deadly protest* in front of the Minister of Agriculture. For reason i am unaware of, since i hardly lift the daily paper, France’s fishermen have created a rotting pond of guillotined fish heads in the middle of the street. As nauseating as the smell was, there was also a sense of relief, as if today’s problems would become tomorrows fertilizing compost.
One thing is for sure, we will not be having fish tonight, or this week for that matter.

###JESUS MONSIVAIS_——–! !!! ###

The first time I saw JESUS MONSIVAIS‘ work was when I haphazardly fell into the neighborhood bar I used to frequent during the Brooklyn era.  I recall being somewhat stoned when I walked in and saw these lavishly colored, mind-bending portal/paintings hanging up around the bar space.  “heLLLLO!!!!— “Who did these”? I asked the Mexican guy behind the bar (who seemed somewhat stoned).  He said, “I did”, sheepishly. From that night on, me and Monsi became good friends. Eventually, he would even rescue/consult me in a near-break up with my @ the time girlfriend, Tiease Lee.

When I moved to L.A., he let me buy one of his masterworks for what was basically a donation— a painting of a golden woman– she is the apple of my eye, hanging firmly in the foyer.      He’s gonna be big soon, mark my words….

Ex. #2 (Russell Brand)

when the earth’s vibrational frequency raises, the social era becomes more dynamic.  As a result, one can expect the appearance of more subtle art, more altruistic and virile social activism, new paradigm-shifting ideas in every facet, and the emergence of powerful and outspoken visionary figures…*Aart Jurriaanse (BRIDGES)

example #2 (Barack Obama was #1): British Comedian Russell Brand being interviewed after hosting the 2008 MTV Video Awards. Pay close attention to the last 10 seconds.

(note: he also makes mention of 2 other future “examples” during the course of his interview)

Vicki DaSilva (*\things you can do with long exposer!!()

8 ft fluorescent light bulb moved

along 100ft. metal track system

“While in art school I became fascinated with time exposure photography at night as a way of creating images that involved principles of drawing, painting, sculpture, performance and installation. The work exists, as you point out, through the documentation process of photography.”

Vicki DaSilva’s photography is bright, bold and undeniably complex. She’s not only behind the camera, but in front of it, carefully crafting the light installations which serve as the subjects for most of her pictures. Though based in Pennsylvania, much of DaSilva’s work was influenced by the time she spent in NYC during the rise of graffiti and hip-hop culture.

Her current series that is a work in progress, Light Tartans, needed a site that would facilitate an intersection to create a plaid by crisscrossing the lamps running along the track system. That site is a cornered wall of a park’s soccer field. The 100-foot track is propped up on the wall and moved along repetitiously along either side. The wall is 10 feet high.

The most detailed and fascinating explication of Barack Obama’s faith came in a 2004 interview he gave Chicago Sun Times columnist Cathleen Falsani when he was running for U.S. Senate in Illinois.

OBAMA: It’s interesting, the most powerful political moments for me come when I feel like my actions are aligned with a certain truth. I can feel it. When I’m talking to a group and I’m saying something truthful, I can feel a power that comes out of those statements that is different than when I’m just being glib or clever.

FALSANI:
What’s that power? Is it the holy spirit? God?

OBAMA:
Well, I think it’s the power of the recognition of God, or the recognition of a larger truth that is being shared between me and an audience.

BECK————–(GAmma rAY*)———-(#). … .

*————>!@@@@@@

(dir. Jess Holzworth) In the clip, a body-painted and almost unrecognizable Chloe Sevigny dances her way through a mystical collage of imagery that might best be described as circus-psychedelia, with a touch of shamanism added for good measure.

Trying to hold
Hold out for now
With these ice caps
Melting down
With the transistor sound
And my Chevrolet terraplane
Going round, round, round

So go the opening lyrics of “Gamma Ray,” which marks the directorial debut of Holzworth, a fashion designer and collage artist. Holzworth was enlisted by Beck to create a fantastical journey that, as she points out, “would be true to my art and to my heart”.  (Give the clip a second to load…it’s well worth it).

MIT CHEMIST OPENS THE DOOR FOR LARGE SCALE DEPLOYMENT OF PRACTICAL SOLAR ENERGY *+*+*+***

Daniel Nocera, a professor at MIT,  has developed a cheaper, easier way to split water using solar energy.

Nocera has been talking about his discovery in terms that are unusually rash for a scientist. “With this discovery, I totally change the dialogue,” he said. “All of the old arguments go out the window.” He believes that he has tapped into the power of photosynthesis and that we have finally harnessed it.

***************

This is very exciting news and it’s a shame that a discovery like this doesn’t get huge media coverage.  It literally is revolutionary.  By studying nature and the way leaves harness water and sunlight, he has figured out how to make solar energy a reasonable and EFFECTIVE source of real energy.  FINALLY.  I can remember reading about the “promise” of solar energy in science textbooks when I was in elementary school.  Necessity is the mother of invention.

BIG OIL AND ALL RELATED INTERESTS: YOU’RE FCKING DAY HAS COME.  NOTHING CAN STOP THIS CHANGE— D. Nocera…let’s GO!!!+++
