The Nechung Oracle (pictured) is the State Oracle of Tibet. In Tibet and throughout the greater Himalayan region, oracles have, and continue to play, an important part in revelation, religion, doctrine, and prophecy. For instance, upon the death of the Dalai Lama, the Nechung Oracle is consulted in order to find the Lama’s reincarnation, or yangsi- a process that can take up to four years.
